Alvie Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at Middlesboro ARH. Born on September 7, 1941, in Bell County, KY, Alvie lived a life marked by unwavering faith, dedication, and simplicity.

He was a coal miner by trade, a testament to his hard-working spirit and steadfast commitment to providing for his family. Beyond his labor underground, Alvie was a holiness preacher, a man of deep conviction and humility who touched many lives with his gentle wisdom and steadfast love. Known as a simple man who deeply cherished his family, he was a pillar of strength and devotion throughout his 64-year marriage to his loving wife, Fronda Smith.

Alvie's journey was shaped by the profound influence of those who came before him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Verna Smith, as well as his grandparents Sarah Katherine Miller and Hiram Miller, who raised him and left an indelible mark on his life. He also said farewell to his daughter Rhonda Carol Smith Mills; son Silas Smith; siblings Iva Lee Shelton, Kenneth Smith, and Sylvia Gilreath, and his son-in-law Mickey Mills.

He leaves behind a remarkable legacy through his surviving family members who carry his memory in their hearts. His devoted wife Fronda stands by the love they shared for over six decades. His children include Linda Byrd, Alvie Smith Jr., Regina Ann Smith Mills, Tammy Renee Smith Miller and her husband Charles, Rebecca Kay Smith Shackleford and her husband Richard, Mary Elizabeth Smith Owens and her husband Christopher, and Kristie Michelle Mills English and her husband Jakie. Alvie was also the proud grandfather and great-grandfather to a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who continue to celebrate his life. His sisters, Jan Watson and Sandi Noel; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends whose lives he enriched.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to honor Alvie’s memory at a visitation on May 31, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home, located at 205 West Kentucky Avenue, Pineville, KY. The funeral service will follow on June 1, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM at the same location; burial will follow in the Red hill cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
