Calvin Cox

Calvin Cox, age 97 of Bell Co, KY passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Barbourville Nursing Home. He was known and loved by everyone as their “pappy.” He was born on August 11, 1927, in Bell Co, KY, the son of the late, John Cox and Eliza Bell Rice. He loved to squirrel and ground hog hunt but in his free time he enjoyed playing the banjo, harmonica and working in his garden; he never met a stranger and loved talking to everyone and telling jokes. He had been a logger, coal miner and retired from Bell Whitley as a carpenter of 20 years. He was a believer in the holiness faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Callie B. Warren Cox; one son Joshua Cox, one great-grandson, Ethan Fugate; 8 brothers and 3 sisters.

He is survived by two sons, Matthew (Jewell) Cox and Delbert (Mary) Cox both of Turkey Creek, KY; one daughter, Christine (David) Nunn of New Tazewell, TN; one daughter-in-law, Freida Cox of Arjay, KY; three grandsons, Michael Wayne Cox, Devinn McKinley Nunn and Delbert Andrew Cox; four granddaughters, Natasha Cox, Hope Fugate, Lauren Nunn and Callie Grace Cox; two great-grandsons Nathaniel Willis and Austin Cox; three great-granddaughters, Madison Cox, Abby Willis and Hailey Fugate, one great-great grandson Peter Willis; special niece Chelsie Fredrick of Barbourville, KY and great-niece Gertrude Brock of Pineville, KY.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home at 7PM with Rev. Gary Wagner and Rev. Carl Jones officiating; music will be provided by Madison Cox and Rosemary Jones. The family will meet at 10AM on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home for burial at Green Hills Memorial Garden Cemetery, Middlesboro, KY.

The family will receive after 5PM on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home until the funeral hour at 7PM. The Brooks-Durham Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cox family.
