Jewell Carroll

August 29, 1932 — September 27, 2016

Jewell Brooks Carroll, 84 of Harrogate, TN passed away at her home surrounded by family on September 27, 2016. She was born on August 29, 1932 in Pineville, KY to the late Gillis and Abbie Brooks. On March 23, 1955 she married Billy Ray Carroll and together they raised three children and a special nephew. She was well suited by her name, as she was a jewel- a precious and rare stone of love mixed with laughter. Though an intensely private person, she had an ability to spread warmth to those in her life. Her kind smile reach her eyes as her contagious giggle often reach her lips. She loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Her heart was a canvas vibrant in laughter, strength and compassion, which painted colorful memories in her beloved family tree. Her nurturing generosity allowed her to have no trouble giving Billy Ray’s coin collection to her children for lunch money and she made sure her grandchildren had a pool to swim in, even though she would never learn to swim. She freely gave labor of love as she genuinely enjoyed surrounding herself with family. To her, contentment was all of her children gathering in rooms of her home. Her kitchen had one legendary staple; a little yellow cake. It was a thin cake covered with icing that spilled over the sides spreading richness. She was that delight for her family. She coated the lives of those she loved with a strong, soothing care and quiet, steady love. A woman of faith who would sit with her bible in hand at the water’s edge and watch the activates of the birds, the tide of the ocean waves, and all the while thinking how blessed she was. Her signature gift was joy, shown through her constant laughter, and her sense of humor will never be forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, her parents, and siblings Estill Brooks, Georgia Lester, and Jack Brooks.

Left to honor and remember her are her daughter Debbie (Freddie) Mays, sons Terry (Jennifer) Carroll and Mike (Janet) Carroll and her grandson whom he thought of her as a mother, Clay (Jessica) Carroll all of Pineville, KY. Special Nephew, Darrell (Irma) Brooks. Grandchildren, Justin (Jamie) Mays, Carrie (Joe) Daniels, Brandie (Jason) Lambdin, Hollie (John) Lambert, Amanda (Michael) Branstutter and Ashley (Mike) Bennett.
