Robert Howard

September 21, 1929 — January 31, 2015

Robert Edward Howard 85 of Mill Creek, Kentucky went home to be with the lord Saturday January 31, 2015 at the Pineville Community Hospital. He was born September 21, 1929 in Blackmont, KY. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school teacher, training Union Teacher, youth Director, Bus Driver and choir member for many years. He prayed for others and witnessed for the lord throughout his Christian life even throughout his sickness. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion and served as commander of Post 10; he was a member of Bell Masonic Lodge 691 for 61 years, where he served in several offices including Master Mason in 1980. Mr. Howard played football at Pineville High school and was named to the All-State team in 1947. He received a full scholarship to the University of Kentucky and played under coach Bear Bryant; he later played football and roomed with Johnny Unitas at the University of Louisville. He went to teach and coach several Eastern Kentucky schools including; Pineville, Henderson Settlement, Lynn Camp and Bell County High School. He served as principal at Moore Haven High School in Moore Haven, Fla and Buckeye, Ward Chapel and Harmony Elementary Schools and was assistant principal at Bell county High School; He also served as Bell County School Director of Pupil personnel.

In additional to his parents, John J and Sarah Saylor Howard, he was proceeded in death by his father and mother-in-law Rev. Otto and Ora Howard Brock; brother James W. Howard; sisters Mildred Osborne and Thelma Asher; sisters-in-law Norma Mingo and Patricia Howard; brothers-in-law Vogal Osborne, Kelly Asher, Herbert Thompson, David Brock and Dr. Dan Woodson.

He survived by his family whom he cherished; his wife of over 55 years, Barbara Brock Howard; daughter Renee Howard of Mill Creek, KY, and Barilyn Lebarbera and husband Larry of Bradenton, Fla; granddaughters Bobbie Collett Carter of Mill Creek, KY and fiancé Steven Silcox of Middlesboro, KY and Robin Felix of Bradenton, Fla; great-grandchildren Kennedy Carter of Mill Creek, KY, Jackson Felix of Bradenton, Fla; brothers Oscar Howard of Altamont Springs, Fla, Orville Howard and wife Helen of LaGrange, KY, Henry Howard and wife Lola of Pineville, KY; sisters Jean Thompson of Kingsport, TN, Betty Mills and husband Tom of Lexington, KY; sister-in-law Jan Brock Woodson of OK; special niece and her husband Sue and Gary Warren. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday February 4, 2015 at Mill Creek Baptist Church at 7PM with Masonic Services beginning at 6:30PM; Ministers will be Rev. Ray Collett, Rev. Ron Howard, Rev. Larry Sowders and Rev. Clifton Caldwell; music will be provided by Mickey Wilder, Jim Miracle and Edwinna Eldridge; Pallbearers will be Jonathan Defevers, James Robert Howard, Will Lefevers, Darren Thomas and Derek Thomas; Honorary Pallbearers will be family members Craig Brock, Dr. Jim Corum, Johnny Lefevers, Colman Lefevers, Keith Lefevers, Brian Lefevers, Tom Lefevers, Donny Lefevers, Mikey Long, Scott Madon, Jeff Saylor, Eddie Saylor, Gary ‘Skeeter’ Warren, Ted Wilder, Dr. Mark Robert Woodson and Michael Woodson; friends Elmer Jr. Brock, Larry Brock, Charles Collett, Donald Collett, Eugene Collett, Harve Couch, Everett Emery, Yvonne Gilliam, Pearl Ray Lefevers and Ken Mosley. Special Thanks to Dr. Steven K. Morgan, Tiffeny Treece, The Third floor staff at Pineville Community Hospital, Elmer Jr. Brock, Rosie Haley, Rhonda Collins, Shelia Brock and Aleisha Lewis.

The family will receive friends after 4PM Wednesday February 4, 2015 at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Private graveside services will be conducted Thursday February 5, 2015.
