Johnathan (John) Lee Hall, born September 7, 1977, to Bonnie and John Hall, passed away on September 1, 2025, at the age of 47. His life was a tapestry of creativity, struggle, perseverance, and deep love for those around him.
Baptized in his youth as a follower of Jesus, John’s faith remained a touchstone throughout his life. Though he wrestled with addiction, he also knew the sweetness of recovery—times filled with hope, joy, and connection. His journey was not without hardship, but it was marked by resilience, courage, and the unwavering support of his loved ones.
Art was the language of John’s soul. Whether through the intricate detail of his tattoo work or the many other creative pursuits that captured his imagination, he expressed a vision of life that was uniquely his own. His artistry touched not only the skin but also the hearts of those who carried his work with them.
Those who knew John will remember the sound of his distinct laugh—full, contagious, and unmistakable. They will recall the grin that revealed his ever-turning thoughts and clever wit. Most of all, they will hold close the memory of his generous spirit, a heart that gave freely, often beyond his own means, to care for and encourage others.
He is survived by his father, John Hall; his son, Charles Hall; his grandson, Colton Hall; his sister, Joni Hall; his niece, Jaycee Frye; his nephew, Landon Frye; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Hall, whose love gave him life and shaped his earliest days.
John’s life reminds us that none of us are perfect, yet all of us are worthy of love. He was always loved deeply by his family and friends, and that love will remain long after his passing. One’s love is very often greater than it is ever expressed, and for certain never fully known.
During a time of sobriety, John spoke openly about his wishes. He asked to be cremated and desired that no formal services be held if he were to leave this world. In honor of those wishes, and as an offering to anyone who knew him and feels led to do one last thing for him, his account will remain open at Brooks-Durham through Friday, September 5. Contributions can be made in person at Brooks-Durham Funeral Home, 205 W. Kentucky Ave., Pineville, KY 40977, or by calling (606) 337-2316. This is not a requirement or request—his family will ensure he is cared for, as they have throughout his life. But for those who wish to contribute in his memory, the opportunity is available.
The Brooks-Durham Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hall family.
