John Slusher

John Gilbert Slusher age 73, went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loved ones on January 21, 2022 at Harlan ARH after battling several health problems. John was born on December 11, 1948 at Insul Coal Camp to the late Gilbert Slusher and Seretta Slusher. John was a coal miner for many years and ran Slushers grocery on 119.

He is preceded in death by his son, John Wesley Slusher; mother Seretta Hobbs Slusher, father Gilbert Slusher; sisters Glenna and Sue; nephew Rodney Slusher; special friends Lowell Scott, Henry Perry, Daryl Lawson, Ken Lawson and David Lawson.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 42 years, Donna Ruth Slusher; his daughter Stacy Slusher-Foster and husband Brandon Foster of Pineville, KY; daughter Britney Howard and fiancé Tyler Foister of Middlesboro, KY. He was a good husband to his wife/ best friend to “his girls.” He is also survived by 3 precious grandchildren that he loved so much: Jackson Foster and Kaislee Foster of Pineville and Keean Foister of Middlesboro; additionally, he is survived by 2 brothers Donnie (Thelma) Slusher of Pineville, KY and Robert (Kathy) Slusher of Pathfork, KY; 1 sister Betty Woodcock of Deer Park, OH. Special friend that he loved like a brother, Tony “Blue” Cox. It would not seem right to leave out his animals that he loved so much: Keeper, Bella and Shelby. John was a man of his word and would ofter to help others in time of need never wanting any acknowledgement. He loved his family, all animals and UK basketball; anytime spent around his grandchildren. John leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends and other family members to mourn his loss. The family would like to thank Dr. Madhan Mohan for taking care of Johnny and becoming a dear friend to him.

Funeral services will be Tuesday January 25, 2022 at Tugglesville Baptist Church at 1PM with Rev. David Hoskins and Rev. David Howard; special music by Angel Fuson Hoskins; pallbearers will be, Tony “Blue” Cox, Jerry Cox, Ronald Bunch, David Johnson, Tommy Johnson, Harold Lawson and Fred Hobbs; Honorary pallbearers Tyler Foister, Brandon Foster, Jason Howard and Grover Gray; burial will follow in Upland Cemetery, Hulen, KY.

The family will receive friends after 6PM on Monday January 24, 2022 at Tugglesville Baptist Church until 9PM. The Brooks-Durham Funeral Home is honored to serve the Slusher family and ask that you keep them in your prayers. The family ask that everyone follow social distancing guidelines at the visitations and funeral and wear a mask if they can.
