Ulyesses “Sonny” Gambrell

Ulyesses (Sonny) Gambrell, was called home by our Heavenly Father in the early morning hours of January 28, 2026, following hospitalizations in Pineville Community Health Center and Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was born on September 6, 1938 in Pineville, Kentucky. Sonny was one of 10 children born to Lee and Nannie Gambrell.

He was a humble man who loved his family. He served honorably in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Emma (Doyle) Chadwell, and his brothers, Harold (Juanita) Gambrell, Donald (Rose) Gambrell, Henry (Cathy) Gambrell, Danny Gambrell, and Richard Gambrell.

He is survived by three sisters, Virgie (Harold) Tuttle, Shirley (James) Marshall, and Idella Patterson, two daughters Maddie (Ed) Harkins and Dorothy (Lawrence) Lingar, and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be Friday January 30, 2026 at 1PM at Brooks-Durham funeral home with Rev. Bill Dunn; burial will follow in Shipley cemetery, Fourmile, KY with family and friends as pallbearers. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 12 noon at the Brooks-Durham funeral home until the funeral hour at 1 PM. The Brooks-Durham funeral home is honored to be serving the Gambrell family.
